We aren’t always able to keep up-to-date with the latest changes in your military or government titles as well. So please let us know when yours changes.
While we strive for consistency, the News-Review receives these photographs from a number of sources and in a number of formats; it is often difficult to ensure similar size and resolution throughout the “Who’s Who!” section. We apologize that some pictures may appear larger or sharper than others.

Make sure that your snaps are taken at 1024 x 768 and 100%. The default region lighting is far too dark and even when color adjusted has far too much blue in it. Instead, try one of the following:
For interior shots when you don’t have to capture a starfield in the background, it’s best to temporarily change your environment settings (under World, Force Sun). I usually find that Sunrise or Sunset work best, but you made need to experiment because it’ll depend on which direction you are facing and where the “sun” is. After taking your shot, make sure to use the Revert to Region settings found in the same menu area.
For interior shots with starfields. If you’re a builder, this is easy. You might need to create a small lighted invisible prim in front of your face. Sometimes one to the sides as well to provide lighting. Make sure to delete them when you’re done. Here’s a brief discussion of how to do it.
For exterior shots, don’t worry about it, these tend to turn out pretty good.
Also, check out Torley Linden’s Snapshot Tips and MOO Guide for other helpful tips.
Too much for you to worry about? Then contact Cathiee McMillan in-world, our ace photographer for FNS. She’s done amazing portraits and other work and has some great backgrounds and textures.
Use one of the following methods to send us your photo:
- You can email to fleetnewsservice@gmail.com, attached as a JPEG, BMP or Second Life texture file. (Please let us know you’ve sent it when you see us in the sim, to help avoid us losing it in spam.)
- You can give it to one of the News-Review staff members as a SL texture; we’ll convert it to a JPG of similar dimensions to the rest on this page, and then we’ll post it.
